A Tribute to My Long Lost Friend

I was inspired to deliver a tribute to my dear friend Becca who now finds herself living in the butt crack of Nebraska. Here are some interesting facts that you may or may not know about corn. Although, by now I'm sure you're quite the expert.
1. Corn, Zea mays L., (or “maize” at it is known throughout much of the world) is a cereal crop, a member of the grass family.
2. Corn starch, which is derived from the endosperm of the corn kernel, is a mainstay of the corn refining industry.
3. There are two basic methods employed in processing corn kernels. They are known as “dry milling” and “wet milling.”
4. Much of the corn now grown around the world is genetically modified for herbicide and/or pest resistance.
5. Corn sweeteners supply more than 56 percent of the U.S. nutritive sweetener market.
6. Corn oil, which is extracted from corn germ, has high polyunsaturated fatty acid content and oxidative stability.
7. It also has a pleasant taste.
I hope that you, Jeff, and Bogart are loving your new lives. Watch out for ominous crop circles and please come back to us soon!

Happy Birthday M'love!

Congratulations!! You are now the atomic number of Zinc! Some may say that 30 is a semiperfect number owing to the subsets of its divisors, but in this case, I think 30 is a glorious number. Long gone are sunny days on the porch with tiny tube socks that are much too small for your chubby legs. Cheer up though, you've still got a ways to go before you are the atomic number of Zirconium.

Happy birthday (Oct. 3rd). I love you!

Grandpa G.

Our final stop this weekend was in Vernal where we got to visit with Grandpa G. and Helen. It was nice to see him and to finally meet Helen. Grandpa is 91 and just as full of energy as anyone I've ever met. He's such a sweet man and greatly concerns himself with the well being of others. I aspire to be as good hearted a person as grandpa when I grow up.

Fishing at the Gorge

Well, it's not as easy at it looks. We had some difficulty keeping the lines from twisting around each other and ended up dragging buckets behind the boat, because we didn't have a trolling plate. Oddly enough, we did manage to catch a few fish. Someone please explain my strange fascination with cleaning fish. I love to rip the little bugger's guts out.

Flaming Gorge

Went to the Gorge with Kathy and Dennis this past weekend. It was all sorts of fun. The weather was mostly beautiful with some scattered showers. Our final salute to all the summer fun.
